![]() Personally, I like to use bots so I don't have to take as large of a UPS hit later on. When it comes to unloading stations, people either use bots or belts. With chain signals, blue means that path(s) are closed, but there is an open one. With rail signals, red is closed, yellow means about to close, and green is open. This ensures that each train's length can fit inside of the block. If you plan on larger trains, make sure there is enough sections for the largest train. For example, if you have 1 locomotive and 2 wagons, make the space between rail signals at least 3 blocks long. Make sure you have enough sections to fit your train. ![]() When you place a signal, you’ll see white boxes. This becomes a lot easier with bots, as you can just lay down a blueprint with everything included. This also alleviates the problem of building a rail and then having to go back and signal it. You'll have enough room between signals for a nice sized train this way. The way I normally place rails is to leave enough space for a large power pole and this is where I place my signals. For example, a rail signal turns red when a section is occupied, but if there are no further rail signals down the line then the rail signal is saying that the entire rest of the rail is occupied. It’s easier to get signals working if the entire rail length is signaled. If you follow this correctly, you'll never have any instance where a train crashes into another one. By doing this, you are telling the trains to stop if the intersection is occupied. After the intersection, place a rail signal, which shows that the intersection is complete. Since I'm used to right hand drive, I know my signals will always go on the outside of the rails.Ĭhain signals before an intersection. Depending on where you live, you can make it right hand drive or left hand drive to get a better sense of direction. Think of it like a 2 way road, for example. Make trains go only one direction on a rail, as it'll make signaling a lot easier. It's pretty long winded, but I wanted to provide the best amount of detail I could. I know I'm a bit late to the party, but if you still have some questions I wanted to provide some input because it took me forever to figure out trains.
